Clasp dentures are one of the most reliable and commonly used types of removable prostheses, offering excellent comfort and functionality for patients with partial—or in some cases complete—loss of teeth. These constructions consist of a metal framework with artificial teeth attached to an acrylic base that imitates natural gum tissue. The denture is secured using various fixing elements such as clasps, attachments, telescopic crowns, or beam structures.
For successful placement, clasp dentures require the presence of stable abutment teeth or, in the case of beam-supported designs, sufficient bone for implant installation.
Clasp prosthetics can be designed in several forms. Clasp-retained dentures use metal hooks that embrace the abutment tooth without removing enamel, providing good retention, though they may be visible when smiling. Attachment-based dentures incorporate hidden precision locks that offer strong fixation, improved aesthetics, and reduced bulk in the mouth. Telescopic crown systems use double crowns—one fixed and one removable—to distribute chewing pressure evenly between the teeth and jawbone, offering superior stability.
For cases requiring full-arch restoration, beam-supported dentures are secured on multiple implants placed evenly along the arch. This approach restores a complete row of teeth without needing an implant for each tooth, reduces treatment costs, and maintains bone levels through even load distribution.
Clasp prosthetics provide a functional, durable, and aesthetic solution adaptable to a wide range of clinical situations.
